The RockNRoll road running series spans 31 races across 9 countries, with the majority being in USA. They are known for lining the routes with bands as well as the glamorous bling. Some of you may have heard of it and I think at least one of our Harriers has run the Las Vegas one!
And so a small group of Harriers arrived in Liverpool Friday 18th May ready to take on the races.
The weekend’s races were 5k, half marathon, marathon, and 1 mile. They all started and finished on Albert dock adjacent to the National Exhibition Centre and by the Echo Arena. I was told there were 20,000 Runners over the weekend. If anything that seemed a conservative estimate!
The 5k was the first race Saturday morning 09:30. The finish was inside in one of the exhibition halls.
Sunday there was the half marathon (09:00), Marathon (10:00) and 1 mile (13:00).
There were some great performances although the weekend was more about fun and the experience rather than gunning for PBs; besides which it was a warm weekend and some of the courses were a bit twisty.
The music on the half marathon/marathon course was brilliant…..something the like of which we’d not experienced before. After racing we enjoyed our free beer and a brilliant concert on a proper stage, with local band SPACE being the headline act.
Interspersed during the weekend was also a couple of visits to the world famous Cavern Club. All in all a very successful and enjoyable weekend.
Thoughts are being given to a trip to Madrid next April.
The runners were:
Mark Bassett – 5k + half marathon
